Mailto without a default email client

A friend developed a corporate website that has a mailto link as a "contact us" link. The problem is that if Windows does not have a default email client, it does not work, even an error message is missing. I was going to suggest changing it to a link to a contact page with an email form, but can anyone suggest something faster / simplified?

mailto:email@company.com?subject= enquiry

Cheers cap

There is nothing faster. However, you can verify that the link text is an email address to facilitate copying / pasting into the webmail client program.

If the link text is an email address, it is inconvenient to double-click to select and then copy (and then drag from the first to the last letter). If you need a specific topic, you can say it, but since mailto already has the fields filled in, you should also say so (and add it to the header of the email link) so that users with the web client do not copy first and click the mailto link.

Send us an email (pre-compiled) at mail@example.tld, with the subject line 'request'
