What is the maximum texture size for ipad / 3gs (SGX graphics card)? how much memory can we use “specifically” for texture data?

What is “shared memory” associated with texture memory in PowerVR SGX card. There is no relevant documentation related to this.

Usually for an application on the iphone (presumably 3gs / ipad PowerVR SGX cards) it is limited to 24 MB. Even if I download about 64 MB of texture, it will load. Then why is it called shared memory! This is actually confusing. It is also recommended to point to the entire architecture.

iPhone 3GS / 4, iPod touch 3rd / 4th generation, iPad / 2 or later have PowerVR SGX GPUs.

PowerVR SGX uses shared memory with main memory, so you can use textures of any size.

Imagination provides a brief PowerVR SGX documentation.

1st / 2nd generation iPhone 3G and iPod touch have PowerVR MBX (OLD).

Historically, first and second generation iPod touch used PowerVR MBX (OLD) . For PowerVR MBX (OLD), the video memory was separated from the main memory, and the video memory size was 24 MB. This memory was intended for backup / back rendering, textures, etc. Thus, you could not use textures more than 24 MB. However, this information is no longer relevant. Today, there are some limited devices with a limit of 24 MB.

If you want to know more about this later, let Apple Instruments be with you.
