According to the book "Mac OS X, iPod, and the iPhone Forensic Analysis DVD Toolkit," the partitioning scheme for the iPhone (which is similar to that of the Apple TV) contains:
1 - the first section of the main boot record (about 500 mb),
2 - then the Apple_Free area,
3 - then the first HFSX partition , which basically stores the iPhone operating system.
4 - Again, another area of ββApple_Free
5 - and, finally, the second HFSX section containing all user data (applications, movies, images, etc.)
