Application Development for Apple TV

I am an iPhone developer interested in developing applications for Apple TV. Is Apple an Apple TV SDK? If I can develop for Apple TV, how do I install the SDK on my Apple TV?

New Apple TV ( 4th generation , 2015) launches tvOS . It has an AppStore that allows third-party application developers to release their own applications on the platform. tvOS is based on 95% on iOS 9, and the rest on adaptation for optimizing the TV.

There is currently no way to develop applications specifically for the Apple TV. You can, however, write an iOS application (iPhone / iPad) that uses the Apple TV as a display. There are several games that do this already. They allow you to display on your TV and have a different interface on your iOS device (for example, controls).

In fact, there is a whole chain of tools for creating applications for Apple tv2 / 3, but remember that Apple does not officially support it.

I don’t know what Apple thinks of iOS developers who use this toolchain and release applications (e.g. fire core).

And one more thing: your Apple TV must be Jailbroken to run these applications.

Since the question is from 2011, I will assume that you asked about Apple TV 2. Apple should invite companies to develop applications for the Apple TV second and third generation. With 4th Generation Apple TV, anyone with a developer account can create Apple TV apps. See here for more details.
