Buying an Android device for development

So, I'm thinking of getting Sprint Nexus S from ebay for Android development. I am wondering if getting a blocked phone will prevent me from doing any development by phone (tapping the application market, connecting to the Internet (I don't care 3 / 4G, if I can use Wi-Fi, I'm good)). What are some things I should worry about when you get a locked phone for development? Will a locked phone work without a SIM card?

Or do I really need me to get an unlocked development phone? I am currently using the iPhone ATT and I do not plan to switch to Sprint.

There is nothing wrong with getting a locked phone. Until you make sure your phone requires a sim. If so. Make sure sim. If this is not a problem, I see nothing wrong with that. It works great with wifi. Since I have 3 locked phones that I use for development, purchased from ebay. 2 tablets, Nexus s. Works great for me. You should be fine. =)

I do not see any problems when buying a locked phone, if you only have a Carriers SIM card. Otherwise, you cannot even start it. But I always prefer an unlocked phone.

Edit: You do not put your applications on the Android Market from your phone, but from the Internet. https://market.android.com/publish/Home

Rooting gives you the added benefit of developing Android. I would make sure you can run this phone before purchase :)
