Howd do I switch between the “previous searches” inside intellij, in other words, went through the “custom search”?

Eclipse used to have a drop-down list in which I could click “past searches” so I could switch between different sets of search results and history, is this possible in InteeliJ?

Right-click the Search icon: there is an item named Recent Find Usages (you can also go to it using CTRL+E when you are in search mode). Usually CTRL+E is a contextual way to access history.

Please note that this does not save the results, but only the query. In other words, it searches again every time you use it.

Also note that I'm using IntelliJ 10.5.2 , not sure about older versions.

Whenever you perform a search, you have the option "Open in a new tab." If you do this, the results will not be undone by the new search.
