Android: how to upload and display large images (size A0) - e.g. google map?

I need to download and display some very large images, some of them have A0 size (33.1 ร— 46.8 inches). I watched how the map display of the Google map divides the image per inch (size 128x128 pixels) with different levels increase (to increase / decrease) and upload them to the view, but I still get stuck with performance problems, it is not smoothing enough. I think that some of you have faced the same problem and decided to solve it, therefore, if you can share with me and everyone. As I know, there is a CATiledLayer class to do this work on an iOS system. Any help would be appreciated.
