Emacs fast character navigation?

I came across an interesting package that speeds up character navigation, but I can no longer find it and can not remember its name. Apparently the idea came from vim. There is definitely an emacswiki page for this.

Basically, you press a key to enter a secondary mode, enter a search query, and it obscures the window and sequentially selects all occurrences of the search query in the window. Then you can press “a” to go to the first, “b” for the second, etc.

Any help?

Edit: I will add a vim tag, as the vim package name will be enough to find it.

ace-jump-mode seems to be what you are looking for.

The inspiration for AceJump comes from a vim plugin called EasyMotion . EasyMotion provides a much simpler way to use movements in vim. This infers from w or f {char} to highlighting all possible options and allowing you to press a single key to jump directly to the target. So I decided to write something similar to Emacs.

This minor mode gives you the ability to:

  • go to word
  • go to any character in the word
  • go to line

The wiki page is also available on Emacswiki .

If the Vim package name is enough: I think you mean EasyMotion .

It is called iy-go-to-char.el , and you probably saw it in this EmacsRocks screencast . I uploaded it to marmalade-repo.org a while ago, which may help you if you use package.el.
