Your client does not support opening this list using Windows Explorer

I installed Microsoft SharePoint and Project PWA on Windows Server 2008 R2.

When I want to open a library in Windows Explorer, I accidentally receive an error message: The client does not support opening this list using Windows Explorer

When I open IE, it works the 1st and 2nd time, but after a few clicks it no longer works, and I need to restart IE, and then it usually works a couple of times. When it does not work through Sharepoint, it also does not work through \ server \ DavWWWRoot \ PWA and oposite.

I have been searching the Internet for several weeks and have not found any solution. You know what should be wrong here. Any suggestion is welcome :)

I had the same issue with windows 7 and explorer view. The following steps solved the problem for me:

  • First, make sure the web client service is running (run> services.msc).
  • Next, in IE, select the checkbox "Tools"> "Internet Options"> "Security"> "Local Intranet"> "Sites"> "Advanced" and add the site from which you want to use Explorer.

It finally fixed it for me. Hope you have already found a solution to this problem! I was surprised how difficult it was to find a solution to this problem!

This error message is a symptom for several different problems.

I solved this problem when I realized that the XP32 box was able to do this with IE8. So I went back to IE8 in 7x64 (you need to do this by uninstalling updates for IE until you return to 8), and that didn't work. The build options were different, but in the β€œabout” field of 7x64 he said that IE8 uses a 256-bit cipher, while in XP32 it had 128-bit. This was a hint to me that 64-bit problems are possible, even if you are running a 32-bit executable.

Then I found this fix , so I reinstalled the Windows update for IE10 and installed this fix. Now I can open the TeamCenter site in question in Windows Explorer. IE10 reports version 10.0.9200.16686. I cannot guarantee that this is only the fix (and not reinstalling IE10) that fixed it. But I bet it was just a fix.

In XP, I was not able to map this network location to a drive letter, because the mapping is not like a URL. However, in Windows 7, you can translate the URL so that it is interpreted as a Windows share. If the URL of this folder has the following form:

https://somesharepoint.com/folder1/folder2/folder3

you can also access it as

 \\somesharepoint.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\folder1\folder2\folder3

and in this form it can be mapped to the drive letter.

I have problems at this point that even when I open and log in IE10 to the site, I see random timeouts similar to the problems, and they start to run me (and were asked to log into IE10 again). My situation is complicated, because to access the site I need an Exostar token to log in, so I have to log in to the site through the website, no matter what.

If this helps, follow the steps above: Be sure to use 32-bit Internet Explorer (program files (x86) / Internet explorer). As mentioned above, the web client must be running. You may also need to add your site to trusted sites in Internet Explorer. Make sure that activated protected mode in the Internet settings is disabled.

This is what finally fixed it for me: check "Remember me" on the login page. That was the key for me. Will not work without verification in my case.

I had the same symptoms, and it turned out that I did not have a root site collection. It was decided for me.

The following troubleshooting steps are included: http://letitknow.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/your-client-does-not-support-opening-this-list-with-windows-explorer-error/

I also had the same problem. And I found that if none of the above parameters works, and if you work in an organization, perhaps the proxy blocks the "Open with Explorer" option.

I did the same and deleted the proxy server and it worked fine.

this fixed it for me (however on Windows Server 2008 you might need to install the desktop, which he thinks is called)

After logging into Windows, go to services, then restart WebClient and see if you can use the browser view without the error "your client does not support. Blah blah blah" if it works then. create a batch file that says:

net stop webclient net start webclient

then complete the scheduled tasks that run this batch file at startup. Run it as a user with administrator rights, make sure that you run it, even if the user is not logged in. It should ask for the password of the administrator account that you selected. this worked for me with windows 7.

I found online where the error may occur periodically with SharePoint 2010, however I think the version of SharePoint does not matter. They said that client polls for the SharePoint root site and that the error occurs if it is not found.

We did not see the error, since I created the root site, although I used only WSS3. Our mistakes began when we changed clients to Windows 7. Therefore, in our case, it sounds like the problem may be the reason for polling the root site due to a change in IE8 security in Windows 7.

SOLUTION: * you are on a 64-bit machine *, so the solution is that there are no problems, but you are using the wrong IE shortcut.

There are various types of IE that you can use (just enter Internet Explorer in the search bar) and you will see.

  • Internet Explorer (64-bit) - Will not show any sharepoint add-ons
  • Internet Explorer (no add-ons) - will not show any sharepoint add-ons
  • Internet Explorer - only this will show the sharepoint add-ons and will work like this , basically make sure you always use this version of IE
