Wi-Fi peer-to-peer API on Mac OS X

The OS X AirDrop feature allows a direct Wi-Fi connection with the nearest Mac, which is simultaneously with any Wi-Fi AP connection. He said differently that he uses Wi-Fi IBSS (aka ad hoc) or Wi-Fi Direct.

Is there an API (possibly undocumented driver commands) for controlling parallel Wi-Fi P2P?

I believe AirDrop uses IBSS since it runs on a Mac prior to Wi-Fi Direct and uses TLS, which is necessary because IBSS provides only WEP. But maybe it uses Wi-Fi Direct if both nodes support it?

Alternatively, what are the best resources for undocumented OS X APIs?

This looks promising: https://serverfault.com/a/54256

Typically, if you look into system libraries, you may find class-dump useful ... You can also use nm to output characters from libraries / frameworks.

I believe Wi-Fi Direct is AirDrop's requirement, according to MacWorld here , although the end of 2008 seems a bit early for WiFi Direct.

Apple says supported models

  • MacBook Pro (late 2008 or newer) *
  • MacBook Air (late 2010 or newer)
  • MacBook (end of 2008 or later) *
  • iMac (Early 2009 or later)
  • Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or later)
  • Mac Pro (early 2009 with an AirPort Extreme card or mid-2010).
