Is a trunk tied to a branch considered closed?

Do I need to explicitly close a branch after merging it with trunk? Or is it implicitly considered closed after its merger? In the first case, what should I do to close the branch? Does this mean that I have to remove it?

Yes, you must remove the branch after its reintegration into the trunk. This is well explained in the SVN book:

As soon as merge-reintegration is performed from branch to trunk, the branch is no longer suitable for further work. He is not able to properly absorb new changes in the chests, and also can not be reintegrated into the trunk again. For this reason, if you want to continue to work in your function branch, we recommend destroying it and then re-creating it from the body
