Is an Iterative Closest Point (ICP) implementation available in R?

Question

Does anyone have an implementation of the Iterative Minimum Point Approach (ICP) algorithm for two dimensions (2D) in R?

This corresponds to two sets of points using translation and scaling.

Spacedman's comment is probably best. You can also take a look at http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/loadFile.do?objectId=12627&objectType=file for implementing matlab. Assuming it works fine, translating Matlab to R code is relatively simple.

This is a somewhat non-response answer.

There are many ICP options. The choice of design was at least partially organized by the end of the 90s. the work of Pulli, Rusinkevich and Levoy. If you intend to use ICP for anything remotely important (translation: "more than just assigning a class"), you must understand the tradeoffs.

Thus, it is best to take one of the existing implementations and transfer it to R.

There is a standalone (as far as I can tell) C ++ implementation of ICP here . Perhaps you can create your own R wrapper around this C ++ code.

3 years is too late, but there is icpmat function in Morpho package by the same guy who wrote Rvcg. I do not know which option is implemented.
