How to set encoding in utf-8 in NetBeans 6.9?

I am running NetBeans 6.9, I can’t figure out where to set the encoding. I found several guides on Google, but they were all for older versions.

Method Mr. LordofFatality does not work for files outside the project that you open through the "open file" menu.

To do this, find the netbeans.conf file in netbeans installation\etc\ , find the line netbeans_default_options and add the line -J-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 .

If you did not find the "netbeans_default_options" option, add a whole new line that should read:

 netbeans_default_options="-J-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8"

Accordingly, NetBeans 7.2 also works in version 7.4

PS The problem has existed for several years, and now it is very strange to have such software. Or I just skipped this option, if so, please let me know.

Good luck.

In 6.9.1:

  • open the project panel if you no longer see it (Window> Projects);
  • right-click the name of your project in a tree view;
  • click properties
  • make sure that the "Sources" menu item on the left is highlighted,
  • You should see "Coding" and a selection box next to it;
  • Click OK. Done.

SHOULD work this way and work for anyone on the Internet except me. On my Windows XP system files, files are still not saved as UTF-8. Still wondering why ...

MUST work this way and works for anyone on the Internet except me. on my system xp dev files are still not saved as UTF-8. still wondering why ...

Your file must contain one or more non-Latin characters, therefore.
