All startup / debugging options are disabled in RubyMine

I am running RubyMine on a virtual box of Ubuntu 12.04, and I can start the rails server from the command line. However, all startup / debugging options are completely disabled in RubyMine. I can’t even create a new launch configuration.

Could this be related to running on Virtualbox?

This happened to me and the problem was solved by following these steps:

  • Close RubyMine
  • Delete .idea folder from project directory
  • Open RubyMine and open the project directory
  • RubyMine should automatically detect an existing Rails application and create default launch configurations.

I also had RubyMine crash, but deleting the .idea folder did not work for me - after re-opening RubyMine, the options were still disabled.

After a little research, I realized that launch configurations are created after the project is indexed. When you click on the progress bar in the status bar at the bottom of the window, the progress of background tasks is displayed. Waiting until all tasks were completed solved the problem for me.
