Failed to create imageSource from text '.. \ Images \ Medium.png

I recently migrated Windows 8.1. But it was not possible to open a new vs2013 / vs2012 project template.

On Windows 8, it worked fine.

ERROR: Failed to create imageSource from text '.. \ Images \ Medium.png'

I tried all the parameters, but failed.

This is because you migrated from windows 8 to Windows 8.1

  • First go to Control Panel β†’ Check for Updates for Windows 8.1

  • Install all important updates.

  • Restart your computer

  • Everything will work correctly.

I tried almost every solution I found.

I would like to share what I tried and did not work, and what worked and solved the problem.

Here are the β€œsolutions” that did not work for me , but claimed to work for some people .

1) Removing the FastPictureViewer codec pack (which is not already installed)

2) Having permission to change for all for

c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config

and

 c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.30319\config\machine.config

3) Using Procmon to see broken registries

4) Uninstall / reinstall VS13 and all shared packages

5) Renaming the machine.config.default file to machine.config

6) Starting Visual Studio as an administrator

And this is what he decided:

Just install all the updates for Windows 8.1 (and not just the important ones, as well as additional updates) and restart. It sounds crazy after we spent hours and hours, but it solved my problem.

Good luck

I tried all the steps mentioned above and it didn't work. Even I was not able to uninstall VS.

I updated the .NET platform through the Contrl Panel-> Programs and Features-> Microsoft.Net Framework-> right-click Chane / Uninstall Repair.Net Framework.

This solved the problem.

I got the same error after installing Oracle Data Provider for VS 2013 . I installed all the important updates of Windows 8.1, but it did not work. I read somewhere that this could happen due to the finally installed VS add-in, etc., and then uninstall Oracle Data Provider for VS 2013 and solve the problem.

I am using Visual Studio 2012. This problem occurred to me after upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, so it is definitely related to updating the OS.

As some answers say, installing updates for Windows 8.1 will solve the problem. But you do not need to install everything. I installed only .NET related updates. In particular, I installed "Microsoft.NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows 8.1" (KB2934520) and several more updates "Security and Quality".

After a reboot, the Component Download dialog box appears when Visual Studio starts, indicating that the cache of some components is invalid, and they are compiled again. After that, the Add Link dialog box opens again.
