Check user action on Intent.ACTION_VIEW

Question

I have a list filled with some files, there can be various types, such as pdf or documents. When the user clicks on one, I get the mime type of the file and start the intention, allowing the user to choose which application to use to open this file. What I want to know is the user selected something or simply clicked back and didn’t select anything. What I tried so far, did startActivityForResult and checked for success, but it always returns RESULT_CANCELED

I even tried with startActivityForResult (Intent.createChooser, but still to no avail. How can I find out if the user has selected something on this list or canceled the open one?

As written in Android Developer at Events

In other protocols (e.g. ACTION_MAIN or ACTION_VIEW) you cannot get the result if you expect.

You cannot count on views of actions that return what you expect, so I did this using a special warning dialog box that displays all the possible applications that can open a specific file, a slightly modified version, as shown here. Custom choice of intentions

The code for those who are interested, it takes the FilePath parameter as a parameter and shows all installed applications that can handle this type of file, getting mimetype.Works with the full path. Can be called with

 AlertDialogIntentChooser alertDialog = new AlertDialogIntentChooser(filePath,getActivity()); alertDialog.show(); 

this is a class, it can accept an optional delegate, and also for activity callbacks
