According to Todd Parker on jQuery Mobile's blog, Android transitions are having problems:
JQuery Mobile Blog We did a ton of work, dropping to 1.0, to make our transitions as smooth as possible, but there were two significant limitations that we could not avoid: the need to scroll the viewport between transitions and poor animation of Androids. In 1.1, weve embraced these contradictions and came up with a new animation sequence that effectively hides page scrolling, completely redesigned the loader for visual unobtrusiveness, accelerated the overall transition time, added support for Firefox animations and changed the default transition to quick and smooth fading / in the animation instead of a slide . After much testing and refinement, weve decided to use a test test of 3D translation to exclude weak platforms, such as Android 2.x, from more complex slides, pop and flip transitions, so they will return to default all transitions to provide a smooth experience.
It looks like your problem can be solved with the release of v1.1 from mid to late February. For now, stick to fade or nothing at all.
