Android Studio does not start after installation

I just downloaded the new version of Android Studio IDE released today and installed it. When I double-click the icon to launch it, nothing happens. I tried all the shortcuts for it, as well as the .exe in the installation folder.

I also tried restarting the computer, uninstalling / restarting and installing into the folder without spaces. Does anyone know why Android Studio does not start?

I set the JDK_HOME environment variable to point to my Java JDK path (1.7) and it worked.

My JDK path:

c: \ Program Files \ Java \ jdk1.7.0_21

but it will vary depending on the version of your JDK.
