How to test a Windows8 application on the surface

How to transfer the Windows8 application that I created on the surface? I created the application using Visual Studio, and I can test it just fine on the desktop machine, just by pressing F5. How can I put it on the surface to test it without publishing it in the store? Thanks.

Short summary:
1. Download Remote Tools for Visual Studio 2012 (from here in the "Optional Software" section below) and install them on your surface.
2. Run the remote debugger on your surface and configure it. Leave it on and listen.
3. Go back to your dev machine and in Visual Studio 2012 change the Run popup menu to "Remote Machine". Launch and select your device.

you need to install Remote Tools and configure Visual Studio to debug on the remote computer. The rest is pretty simple.
