"DefaultAppPool" automatically shuts down due to a series of crashes

Hard time with this problem. Not sure how, but my ApplicationPoolIdentity is broken.

I am currently running IIS 8 on Windows 8 with Visual Studio 2012. When I try to debug an application from Visual Studio or just go to a site in a browser, I get the following error message and error 503.

Application pool 'DefaultAppPool' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.

If I look at the application error logs, I find the following error in the user profile service .

Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, and that your network is functioning correctly. DETAIL - The system cannot find the path specified.

Studying the details, I found that the User Profile Service is trying to load the profile using Id

S-1-5-82-3006700770-424185619-1745488364-794895919-4004696415

Now I opened the registry to try to find a profile with this UserId. However, nothing helps in the Profile list.

No profile with the ID here

So, digging a little more, I found that this problem can be solved with

A) Set Download application pool user profile to false.

B) Use a different account for the application pool.

C) Correct the account.

Seeing how this is a built-in account, I would rather fix the problem than fix it.

What i tried

  • aspnet_regiis -i
  • Remove IIS from windows and reinstall.
  • Trying to follow the manual here , but I do not know the account password: P

My hunch

Somehow ApplicationPoolIdentity got messed up. Are there any physical folders for built-in accounts? I know that physical directories for network and local service profiles exist in C: \ Windows \ ServiceProfiles \ . Can I recreate the ApplicationPoolIdentity profile? Or am I aloof from what the real problem is?

C) Here is what I did to fix the account Go to regedit with the key

HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Profile List

There is a default setting. You must ensure that the data value points to an existing directory on disk. By default, it contains "% SystemDrive% \ Users \ Default". In my company, the user profile is changed by default. Somehow, someone deleted this user profile. Therefore, when the defaultAppPool user tried to create a binding for himself, he could not do this because the windows could not provide him with a default user profile.

You can also diagnose this error when viewing the event viewer in the Application folder. You will receive a message of this type:

Windows cannot find the local profile and registers you with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost if you log out.
