How to throttle network traffic to simulate the environment?

I am trying to test an application using a database connection. What I would like to do is to throttle the bandwidth of, say, 1 Mbps or so, in order to better perceive the application in real conditions.

I already use Wireshark to look at the connection with the database, and I expected Wireshark to have such a function, but there seems to be no way to do something like this.

Any suggestions?

Check out WANem . You can download a bootable ISO that boots into any system with multiple network cards, which are then inserted between your client and server. This allows you to control bandwidth, latency, jitter, loss, and several other parameters.

Take a look at Trickle . In addition, if you use a router, the firmware of a commercial-grade router usually has QoS traffic shaping services.

If you can verify this at the endpoint, you can try using a browser throttle filter. One example is Firefox Throttle .

This program, called BWMeter, can do this.
