Eclipse ADT (theme and icon) damaged after updating Android SDK

after adding new components (Android SDK Tools and developer tools) to Eclipse, the beautiful splash screen (at startup) and the application icon (in the document) will disappear when I start Eclipse. Right before I start, the ADT icon will appear, but after it starts, it will change to the Eclipse icon. I am running Mac OSX Mountain Lion. (ADT badge: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kcAmqYmpgVM/UKPPGbaJNnI/AAAAAAAAkp0/dp-vtDYvnA0/w248-h248-p/sdk-adt-ide.png )

What can I do to prevent this? Without different icons: it is difficult to distinguish between various Eclipse applications.

Thanks in advance.

In addition to the previous posts earlier (thanks at this point), I will now post official answers here (from the forum link that I posted there).

There is currently no supporting solution, but a workaround (last paragraph)

We apologize to all of you for the delay in correcting this. I am waiting for Eclipse to release 4.2 SR2 before upgrading the ADT version of Eclipse to 4.2.2. According to http://wiki.eclipse.org/Juno/Simultaneous_Release_Plan#SR2 , 4.2.2 was due to be released on 2/22, so I expect it to be released anytime soon.

We have already updated the ADT package to enable egit by default, so if you are just looking for egit, you do not need to install wow.

All others should do the following: - go to Settings β†’ Install / Update β†’ Available software sites and uninstall / remove the Juno update site. - Whenever you install any software, make sure that the 4.2 Eclipse platform is not connected.

In addition to this, there is a second message that there is a solution (fix) coming with the upcoming release of Eclipse:

Project participant (03/11/2013) link to the message
From https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/53181/1 , we are now building with e4 internally. We will try to make the preview available during the week.

See comment No. 29 for workarounds. Most of you should be able to get everything working as long as you delete the Juno repository from your list of P2 repositories.

Update:

Date: 05/10/2013
IF YOU HAVE THIS ISSUE, TRYING TO INSTALL eGIT
β†’ eGIT is NOW included in the Bondle bundle on the Android Developer download site.
The code with corrections that are still in sight - nothing has changed on the main problem.

Hope to be helpful at this point. Will edit when something happens.

I struggled with the same, but I managed to fix both the application icon and the splash screen on the Mac.

  • To replace the icon:

Browse to the contents of the Eclipe ADT package. Go to the Resources folder and delete Eclipse.icns. To be safe, open Info.plist and replace the Bundle icon:

    <key>CFBundleIconFile</key> <string>adt.icns</string>
  • Now, to replace the splash screen:

One quick way is to look in the / plugins folder for a "splash". You will see a surge in ADP and Eclipse. Since they are located in different folders, just copy the adt splash screen image and replace it with eclipse.

Finished, now you get your previous ADT appearance.

I had the same problem after upgrading to ADT 21.1 on Windows x86, looking around my eclipse configuration file. I found the following directive:

 -showsplash C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86\eclipse\\plugins\org.eclipse.platform_4.2.1.v201209141800\splash.bmp

I went there and found the default eclipse eclipse bmp eclipse, I just replaced it with the ADT beta burst I found here:

 C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86\eclipse\plugins\com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.package_21.1.0.v201302060044-569685

After rebooting my browser, I got the ADT splash screen.

On mac, you will find this setting inside the eclipse package in your ADT folder. Just right-click the Eclipse application and select "Show Package Contents."

Inside the content folder there is a file called "Info.plist", which contains all the settings for the application icon and splash screen. I found that I had double icon definitions, so I just removed the non-ADT and pointed the burst to the right place.

For the splash screen, you will need to use the full path to the bmp file. It should be something like this:

 /{adt-install-location}/eclipse/plugins/com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.package_{your-build-number}/splash.bmp

You will need to check your plugin directory to find out what your build number is, since it may be different for you than for me. After changing these lines in the plist file, save it and you should return to normal operation.

Just:

  • Open the package for your Eclipse.app
  • Skip to content / Resources and remove Eclipse.icns

Then your beautiful ADT icon will reappear.

This is the route where you can find the adt.ico file for any use you need:

 <ADT-installation-folder>\eclipse\plugins\com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.package_<Build-number>\icons

For reference only: my ADT installation folder: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Android\android-developer-tools and my Build-number: 22.3.0.v201310242005-887826

Source of information: Add .ico file (Thanks to Siva Velusamy for making this patch on October 24, 2012)
