Can I update the system application?

If I have a system application on Android with the same package signature and which has a new version on the Android Market, will the market detect it and be able to update it?

(For example, the application that Carrier adds to the OS).

UPDATE: Skillfully check this answer (marked as already allowed) ... but a new one has appeared: Why does the market not show the system application in “my applications”? when is the update available? )

In short: Yes.

After installing them, you will have the opportunity to "remove updates" instead of "remove", as you see for regular applications.

However, most operator applications do not have updates through the market, only Google applications. (For example: Gmail updates quite often, while SpringID can never be updated because they are not in the market)
