Extract text from images programmatically

I am looking for a programmatic way to get text on images. I do not know about such a tool if it is already available. I need to download images first and then extract text from them. Is there a software way to do this?

Tesseract OCR can extract text from images. What exactly do you mean when extracting?

OCR is a complex technology (image segmentation, angle correction, binarization, character segmentation, analysis of combined and broken characters, dictionary checking, etc.), but there are ready-to-use character recognition devices, most of which are commercial, for example:

  • The most accurate (and expensive + royalty) is the Abby OCR engine.
  • Good Accuracy (Royalty) - OCR OmniPage.
  • Good accuracy (without royalties) - Nicomsoft CrystalOCR engine.
  • Allowed accuracy (free) - OCR Tesseract engine.
