Problem with RailsInstaller with fresh Mountain Lion installation

I previously installed Rails on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, but I just reformatted my hard drive and am trying to set up the computer again.

I downloaded RailsInstaller, because I believe that I installed Rails 10.8 earlier, but right at the beginning of the installation, right after entering my full name and email for git, I get an error message.

It states There has been an error. Error changing group of /opt/rix to rvm. The application will exit now. There has been an error. Error changing group of /opt/rix to rvm. The application will exit now. and then ends. This does not give me a solution to the problem with the error message, and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and is aware of the work.

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

I got the same error message. After rebooting the computer and retrying the installation, it worked fine. Hover over your mouse.

I had the same problem, and as Aaron said, restarting can fix it. This is not for me, so I took another step and changed the preference for downloading applications ("System Preferences"> "Security and Privacy") "Allow downloading applications from:" to "Anywhere", restarted the computer and installed it just fine.

A simple restart worked for me. Go figure ...

You must use a ruby version manager, such as RVM or rbenv, to manage your ruby versions and a package provider to manage your gems.

This may not answer your question about the Rails installer directly, but it should allow you to install rails and rubies in a pleasant environment.

Install RVM

Then after that, run rvm install 1.9.3 or any ruby version that you want to install.

Then all you have to do is gem install rails and you should be good to go.

Just log in with sudo su in the terminal, and then you can run the rail installer. I also had the same problem.

Any of these solutions may work. These are the first two things you should try.

1. Restart your Mac and try again. If this fails,

2. Try the following (courtesy of Treehouse): Open Disk Utility Select Macintosh HD Click Restore Disk Permissions. Reboot Mac

I do not know too much about the rail installer. But you can use this wonderful Ryan Bigg blog post for your referral to install all the parts yourself.

It just works.
