When are QLCs much less effective?

In practice, query list queries seem fine for all uses of the Mnesia and ets / dets tables. Are there any operations (or types of operations) that are significantly more efficient than their QLC equivalents?

(I think in response lines in What is more expensive for RAM, understanding the query list, or mnesia index_read? )

For large datasets, I use mnesia: select ( http://www.erlang.org/doc/man/mnesia.html#select-2 ). In my tests, it runs 1.5 times faster than the same QLC queries.
