Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel Link Not Found

I am having problems adding an excel link to my project. I have already installed Primary Interop Assemblies.

The project determines the correctness of the reference to the assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word, but the reference to excel is still not found.

When I try to manually add a link, I directly click on the project, add the link, go to the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel file and try to add it manually. After I select link I, make sure the link is checked, and then click ok. Nothing happens, it does not actually add a link to the project.

Using VS2012 Ultimate.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get the project to see the excel link?

Update: fixed the problem.

  • In the Project menu, click Add Link.

  • On the COM tab, locate the Microsoft Excel object library and click Select.

  • Click OK in the Add Links dialog box to accept your choices. If you are prompted to create a wrapper for your selected libraries, click Yes.

As described in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/c9e83756-4ae2-4ed4-b154-1537f3bb3a22/cant-find-microsoftofficeinteropexceldll?forum=netfxsetup

  • In the Project menu, click Add Link.

  • On the COM tab, select Microsoft Excel Object Library, and then click Select. In Visual Studio 2012, locate the Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library (or another version) on the COM tab.

  • Click OK in the Add Links dialog box to accept your choices. If you are prompted to create a wrapper for your selected libraries, click Yes.

If you are not using excel, run this command in the nuget-package-manager console:

Install-Package Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel

I installed MS Office 13, and from that moment I started getting this error in the VS 2012 project. I tried to add the MS Office library through COM control, but it did not work. Finally, I had to add these library links from the Extensions section (not under COM); had to select Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, version 15.0.0.0. This fixed the bug.

Hope this helps.
