Error: Deployment failed because Windows Phone 8 was not detected

I use Visual Studio 2013 on Windows 8. I have three Windows Phone devices, lumia 620, 920, 1320, and all of these are unlocked developer devices. The 620 has a preview of Windows Phone 8.1. Whenever I try to deploy a WP8 project for this 620, the debug windows give me this error:

1> Failed to deploy the application to the device.
1> Error: Deployment failed because Windows Phone 8 was not detected. Make sure the phone is connected and turned on.
========== Deployment: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 skipped ==========

I tried deployment after rebooting the phone, VS 2013 and even my PC, but failed in each case.

Please share an idea of what might have caused this problem, or help me on how I can solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

As @aloisdg noted in a comment, you can fix the problem by turning off the phone, going to "Control Panel" - "Hardware and Sound" - "Devices", deleting the phone, and then connecting your phone to USB.

So, before you deploy the application to the device, check if the device is recognized on your PC / laptop.

Try connecting the device to a different port. Have you tried another cable for the device.

Problem May be with any port driver. I also came across this by solving it using the following steps.

  • Check all ports on your laptop / PC.

  • Go to Device Manager β†’ Universal Serial Bus Controller β†’ Delete the one that has a yellow label.

  • Go to Action β†’ Scan for hardware changes. The driver will automatically install.

  • Then run the application :)
