Explain clone information on the Github Traffic tab

In a recent question that I did, one of the answers pointed to another answer in another question, where is the way to learn the forks and clones of the Github public repo is common.

I went ahead and did this with my own public repo and came up with this information in the Git clones section of the Traffic tab in the Charts section:

enter image description here

I'm not sure I understand what this information means. Are there 6 repo clones, only 4 of them made on 09/08? Did only 3 unique cloners clone it? In this case, does this mean that they cloned it more than once? Do these numbers include me and any clones that I could make on different systems (e.g. home computer, work PC, laptop, etc.)? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I find that part of the confusion is that 4 cloners (blue line) are shown on the graph, and 3 unique cloners are shown on the label. In addition, it should be interpreted as:

  • 6 clones in the last 14 days, 4 made on 9/8 ... this may not indicate the β€œtotal” as you ask, because this schedule only ever returns 14 days.
  • 3 unique cloners cloned him, some of them may have cloned him more than once ...
  • ... For example, on 9/8 it could be cloners: clones 1: 1 and 1: 3 ... it does not give you this level of information.
  • It should turn on every time the git clone command was executed against the repo, so all your different devices, yes.
  • You would be identified as a unique user or not based on whether you could define β€œ unique GitHub users (or anonymous IP addresses) ” + confirmation from GitHub support
