If you just want to display the log output when the application starts, you can go to the XCode4 → Alerts settings and click on "Launch Start" in the left column.
Then select "Show Debugger", and when you launch the application, the NSLog output will be displayed under the editor panel.
Thus, you do not need to select the up arrow button in the bottom panel.
