The project contains another dependency with the same archive name

Question

I see the following error (and a couple more others) in my markers:

Invalid classpath publish/export dependency C:/Users/LevineJ/.m2/repository/org/bouncycastle/bcmail-jdk14/1.38/bcmail-jdk14-1.38.jar. The project contains another dependency with the same archive name. 

When I do a quick search, I find bcmail-jdk14.1.jar in two places:

• C: \ Users \ LevineJ.m2 \ repository \ BouncyCastle \ bcmail-jdk14 \ 138
• C: \ Users \ LevineJ.m2 \ repository \ org \ BouncyCastle \ bcmail-jdk14 \ 1.38

From what I read on this topic (various posts / articles), I think this is due to the error that I see. Can someone please provide some information regarding: 1. What does this error mean? 2. How can I solve it?

The problem is that *.jar runtime dependencies are published in the WEB-APP/lib folder. If two dependencies have the same name, they cannot be published.

The strange thing with your problem is that itext (with its bouncycastle dependencies) is pretty common. There are several projects in our company, but I have never seen such a warning.

So, this makes me wonder where this problem comes from. Two duplicate dependencies ( bcmail and bcprov ) are not actually duplicated - they have a different version (hence the other JAR name). So the problem should be somewhere else.

Please check your Java build path (or check the .classpath project .classpath ) and deployment build settings. You must inadvertently enable bcmail duplicate manually.

Also make sure you do not have bcmail-jdk14-1.38.jar in src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/lib/ .

And the last possible suspect may be some unconventional JBoss deployment configuration, combining two projects into one web application. But I am not familiar with JBoss Tools (just guessing that you are using it based on your dependencies).

I checked all the answers above, but they do not work for me. I found that my Maven project has a different directory than a regular Java Web project. I checked the .classpath file in the root directory and I changed

 <attributes> <attribute name="org.eclipse.jst.component.dependency" value="/WEB-INF/lib"/> </attributes> 

to

 <attributes> <attribute name="org.eclipse.jst.component.dependency" value="**WebRoot**/WEB-INF/lib"/> </attributes>

I was getting this problem because I had the following configuration

When I added @version @ to outputFileNameMapping, he solved this error.
