Select / highlight multiple items in a list using a custom adapter - Android

I made a good tutorial with some modifications to create my own ListView, which will allow me to display multiple images for each row in my ListView. What I would like to do is highlight by selecting several items in the list, and then follow some steps for all these items in the list, selecting an option in my Options Menu. However, the problem that I seem to encounter is that I cannot select multiple elements, although I added android:choiceMode="multipleChoice" to the ListView in the XML file. I understand that this can be done with checkboxes or radio buttons, but I would prefer to avoid this. I have added my source code below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   • The View root of each item displayed in the list must implement Checkable . When implementing this interface, the updated view state is also. See this answer for how to do this.

  • Set <selector> as the background for this View root. What are the different colors / patterns for checked states and normal states.

  • Set the ListView selection mode to one or more options.

  • In the list adapter, specify the item views with the view created above as the parent layout.

ListView will now take care of setting the checked / unchecked state in its element views. You can also call getCheckedItemIds() or getCheckedItemPositions() on the ListView to get the currently selected items.
