Android Studio: emulator is already running

I am trying to run an emulator on my android 8.14 studio. When I press the start button, it says that it is already running. Any help would be appreciated.

You do not need to completely remove the emulator when this happens. Files to be deleted must have the extension ".lock":

Screenshot of files for an AVD. The first three files appear as file folders in Windows 7 and have '.lock' at the end of their file names.

You do not need to touch the configuration files.

You can easily find the location of the files by clicking the arrow on the Actions tab (in the ADB manager) and selecting "Show on disk".

This worked for me:

Go to AVD Manager and click on the down arrow on the right and click "Stop." This stops the emulator and you can restart it.

There are so many answers, but I'm just expanding to answer this question. What happens when I follow the instructions of Android Studio and try to delete this folder or file, but cannot delete it, so I can open the AVD manager and click the down arrow located to your right. can be seen in the screenshot below and click stop after you click on start and everything works fine. There is no need to reboot or recreate AVD.

Follow the instructions by mistake and go to C:\Users\directory\.android\avd/Nexus_5_API_24.avd/*.lock and delete all files with the extension .lock and it should work.

C: \ Users \ admin.android \ avd \ Nexus_5X_API_26.avd follow the path and delete the hardware-qemu.ini.lock of this folder. make sure your problem can be solved :)

Thanks to everyone.

I deleted the files with the specified location. but when I update the AVD manager, the existing emulator all disappears.

I recreated a new emulator. Now it works great.

For me, “delete the lock file” and “stop the emulator, then start” and “delete the emulator and then restore” does not work.

but deleting the folder " C / User / yourName / .android " may solve this problem

Just follow the tips from Android Studio ... Delete the file that matches your avd and recreate it.

This happens when the virtual device shuts down in an unexpected state.

When you go to the specified location and try to delete these files, sometimes you may receive a message that the file or folder is already open or used by another application.

So a simple solution is just to go

Tools > Android > AVD Manager and Stop the AVD that you are trying to run

Then, when you try to start AVD again, the problem can be solved

In Android Studio, go to "Tools-> Android-> AVD Manager". It will display your virtual devices. Click the Action column for your virtual device. It will list many actions. Click Stop. This will stop your android studio. Now run android studio. Your virtual device should work fine.

Or you can enter the command in the terminal as

1. killall Finder and then type

2. by defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles true it shows a hidden .android folder

Open the .android folder and delete .android/avd/Nexus_5X_API_26.avd/*.lock file and now you start the emulator, it works fine.

Run this command and try again:

 adb kill-server

If the "adb kill-server" does not work, try killing adb from the ubuntu System Monitor application:

 System monitor->processes

All processes will be listed here end adb from here, should be at the top of the list.

In my case, the emulator looked great, but it was hanging.

Just kill the emulator and try again did the trick.

For mac users

Open Terminal, go to the specified path. List all files using the ls command. You will see two files with the extensions .lock or maybe more. Just delete these files. enter image description here
