Is it possible to force IE to use IE5 quirks mode?

I have this question and this , as well as this . Unfortunately, it looks like they are not working for me.

I also looked at Microsoft Docs , but to no avail.

I tried a couple of things.

I added <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=5"> to the head. I added <!DOCTYPE html> to the top of my document along with the meta tag. No dice yet. The only thing that happens is go to Document Mode: Quirks :

Quirky

However, this does not work . My page is broken. But when I select quirks IE5:

5 times as quirky!

Everything works . For any value of work really displays the page.

Although, everything is a little weirder, because the page works fine in Chrome and Firefox.

Oh wow. Apparently he also works with

IE8 Standards ???

IE8 Standards.

Changing it to content="IE=8" or content="IE=EmulateIE8" also does not work.

What am I doing wrong?

Leave the DTDs off and add the following to the <head> :

 <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=5">

From http://www.nczonline.net/blog/2010/01/19/internet-explorer-8-document-and-browser-modes/

Tested as working in IE11 on Win 8.1 and IE10 on Win 7.
