Python Windows 7 - Installation Error 0x80240017

I tried installing Python 3.5.0 on my laptop while running Windows 7, and it will continue to return with an “Installation Error” with 0x80240017 - Unspecified Error.

I tried to work as an administrator and with three different installers on the site.

I encountered the same problem - an unspecified error during installation Package: python-3.6.0-amd64.exe Platform: standard Windows, 64-bit.

Solution that worked for me:

  • Remove the damaged Python installation.
  • Install KB2999226 .
  • Install Python as an administrator.

He throws this error because he is trying to install this KB (2999 .. something) and fail. If you try to install this KB yourself, it may also fail, as it has minimal OS requirements. In my case, it was Windows 7 Service Pack 1. After installing Service Pack 1, I was able to install Python 3.5.x in order.

I have compiled the necessary service packs for installing python on win 8.1. This topc also applies to the following:

packages (I did not check a subset of packages, but if you install everything, python can be installed. Before installing there are several packages that require one more, the one required is also listed here. Therefore, if the installation says that “this update is not suitable for of this machine, "just continue, install other packages, and when done, install the remaining packages that you could not install before.

As you can see, I used win 8.1 x64. The total size of these packages is about 1 GB. All are downloaded from microsoft update center.

I also use win 7 home premium SP1 and ran into this problem, I solved it:

  • Go to Windows Update in Control Panel

  • Find the installed update with the name KB2999226

  • Remove this update

AND DONE !!!

Honestly, use this method at your own risk, because I'm just a beginner in programming and have no idea what this Windows Update was for. But I did it anyway.

Just in case, it faces Windows 7 for PC:

Very simple, reinstall the Windows service pack and edit the redistributable and bingo Visual C ++, the error will disappear.

In case of difficulties, uninstall all the software (Visual C ++, etc.) and reinstall it as the correct sequence.

I tried to install Python 3.6.0 on a Windows 7 64x laptop and continued to get stuck when installing KB2999226. So, I read what others did in this forum (Fabio Consultant). In a previous article, Visual Studio was mentioned. So, I went to the "Programs and Features" (where you deleted the program), right-clicking on the most recent installation of Visual Studio, selected "Change" and performed the "repair". After that, I installed Python as an administrator (right-click on the .exe file and "run as Administrator") and Python installed without problems. I did not see the installation trying to install KB2999226.

Detailed information about KB2999226 ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 ). Visual Studio repair seems to be fixing CRT issues. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

In my case, I have an application installed on my computer with python installation. I could not find it from a regular search on a PC. Just try installing the “all” software if you have a difficult installation of software like me.

Once you get the path to install python, add this path to the environment variable (System), and you're good to go.

  2. Click the Download button and scroll down to see all the files.

  3. Select windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe (32-bit ) or windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe (64-bit) .

  4. Click "Next

  5. Install this and then install Python
