It turned me on! There seems to be some error in Eclipse that causes lag when redrawing editors when OS X uses "automatic scrollbars" (see system settings).
I found that when this parameter is changed, scrollbars are always displayed, performance scrolling in Eclipse is improved.
However, I like automatic scrollbars, so I came up with this hack: I started the terminal to write defaults write -app Eclipse AppleShowScrollBars Always , and now my scrollbars are always displayed for Eclipse, but not for all other applications.
I hope this helps others too, until this problem gets the correct fix :-)
