Short version: How does the new Calypso app (Powering Wordpress.com) communicate with a private Wordpress unit through the Jetpack plugin? That is, does Jetpack expose an API on my Wordpress hosting site? Or another black magic happens.
Long Version: Calypso is a new javascript-based blog management application on the commercial Wordpress.com website. You cannot use Calypso to directly manage privately hosted blogs with a copy of the open source Wordpress application.
However, there is a plugin for Wordpress called Jetpack . I understand that with the release of Calypso, you can now manage content on your privately / personally hosted Wordpress blogs through the Wordpress.com/Calypso application if you have Jetpack installed locally.
What I want to know: how does Jetpack do this? I assume that Jetpack provides some kind of API on my private blog. It's true? Or is there some other black magic?
Does Wordpress.com/Calypso support regular syncing with my private blog? Or real-time updates?
Context: Iām trying to understand the technical possibilities of opening my personal blog in Calypso, to ensure that the functions that I program in wordpress plugins work well with any Jetpack. That is, what does the technical architecture of the application software for the CLIPPS -> Jetpack -> PHP Wordpress application software look like?
There are a few StackExchange sites I can ask this for, but Wordpress StackExchange seems to focus on practical daily use of Wordpress, rather than technical implementation. Since I am a programmer, this makes Qaru the next best bet.
javascript rest php wordpress wp-calypso
