Can I use a jpg image instead of a PNG image as a background?

My main goal to ask this question is to know if there is any side effect or problem that I may not know.

1) Is it good to use a jpg image as a background? 2) .jpg image takes longer to download than .png? 3) Will you have more time to render / load compared to .png?

I saw a big difference in image size when we use png images.

1 of my .png image size is 4.1 MB , and the same image with a .jpg image size has been reduced to 2.9 MB

Special offer from experts.

Information: To reduce the size of the application. I am still compressing images using compress png and compress jpeg

The difference in image size is huge. i.e. 4.1 MBs png → 2.9 MBs jpg after compression reduced to 654.6 KBs ..

To set the image as BACKGROUND , I did not find any problems ...

It is simply a matter of quality and detail. Just for my opinion, for large background resolution it is better to use JPG if you do not need transparency in the image, with the right compromise between quality and file size,

The PNG format is a lossless compression format that makes it publicly available for use on the Internet. PNG is a good choice for storing line drawings, text, and graphics with a small file size.

The jpg format is a compressed lossy file format. This makes it useful for storing smaller photos than BMP. JPG is a common choice for use on the Internet as it is compressed. For storing line drawings, text and graphic images with a smaller file size GIF or PNG are the best choice because they are lossless.

The main difference is image quality. The PNG format uses lossless compression, while JPEG uses loss-optimized for photos. It depends on what is displayed in the image if JPEG is a valid alternative. In artificially created images of geometric shapes, such as logos, you can easily see artifacts coming from JPEG compression.

This is a matter of image quality. If you are losing quality, just use it instead.

A raster file is a .png , .jpg or .gif file. Android creates a Drawable resource for any of these files when saved in the res/drawable/ .
