I feel your disappointment!
This will probably depend on where the functionality of your plotter is inside your ipython laptop, but one solution (especially if it is in the last cell) is to create many empty cells under the plotter cell (say, 10 to 20 ), and then use Ctrl + Enter to start the plotter cell. This may require some entertainment, but I got it to work for me!
(I think the idea of Ctrl + Enter is to save the cell where it is)
