Mac installation xgboost error - ar: no archive member specified

Question

I am trying to install xgboost on a mac. I followed the github instructions, but when I ran make -j4 , I get an error:

If I run only make (without -j4 ), I get:

Any idea what causes this and how can I fix it?

Although I might be wrong, I think because the ar archive utility on mac is too old (since 2005):

Any ideas on how to upgrade ar to the latest version on OS X?

I successfully installed it on my Linux machine, there is nothing wrong with the make file, my ar version is 2.24, so you understood correctly, your binutils is very old to upgrade to https://www.gnu.org/ software / binutils / download version 2.24.
extract and change directory:

 ./configure make sudo make install
