Well-designed GUI for web applications?

As one of those people who have never gotten to design training properly (or lacked the talent for it), design seems to be the step that always holds me back. This is not a problem for affluent customers, as standard GUI tools provide some reasonable ways to design a beautiful interface, but the web is another story.

Question: Does anyone know of a high-quality framework for developing a web application interface? I am thinking of standard html fragments for an adequate set of controls (standard html controls plus, possibly, navigation, lists, forms) and stylesheets to give it an acceptable modern look. If such a thing existed, it could even support themes in the way Wordpress, Drupal, etc. allow.

I know yahoo yui, but it is mostly javascript, although their css grid is a step in the right direction.

I understand that this is an old thread, but it still stands on Google search, so it’s worth mentioning that Twitter recently released Twitter Bootstrap, a β€œCSS kickstart toolkit for sites, applications, etc.” that looks fantastic! " https://github.com/twitter/bootstrap

Try samples in ExtJs . I find them very useful in developing a user interface. (trees, panels, modals, etc.)

I'm not sure that what you are looking for exists in the form in which you are looking for it. However, I got lucky with places like Open Source Web Design and Open Designs , which have some really smooth templates that can be adapted to the web application so that at least they don't look like shit.

There are also some commercial offers, such as Gooey Templates .

As you approach the launch, you can contact a professional to fix the details for you, or simply rely on what you have.

Edited to add . You might also want to learn Blueprint CSS . I found this to help guide my layouts and help them look β€œright”, without restricting me to a layout built for another purpose.

I suggest the Google Web Toolkit if you are a Java developer. Examples

I will also add an Ext JS clause. He got a huge amount of really attractive user interface elements, incredibly well-documented code and a strong community.

You will probably also find many Wordpress templates that can be useful to use, since Wordpress is at least wise to separate the content from the layout. Also, as a rule, modern blogging. Of course, working with a talented designer is the perfect way to experience my experience! :)

It will be more than the original OP model, but I suggest taking a look at Morfik .

You can create fairly smooth user interfaces with the traditional drag & drop method and support for theming (the page itself is built in Morfik). There are many other benefits provided by Morfik, though don't let me drift to topic for topic. You can download a trial version and see ...

ps. Disclaimer: I worked for them.

You can check out this young site, http://guitemplates.com/ . The templates are pretty clear and modern, and 20 bucks each will not violate your budget.

We had the same problem, so we made our own. CSS UI ( http://css-ui.com/ ), an open source user interface. The concept is to use predefined CSS classes to style any element.

Check out http://jacanasoftware.com . Their templates have layered tabs, clear css, validate, and CSS will not link to your controls. I highly recommend them.
