How to export styles from a Microsoft Word 2003.dot file?

I have an old .dot file with several dozen styles. I need to place them in another .dot file that I received. Is there a better way to get them there than manually recreate each style?

Word has a Style Organizer tool that lets you copy styles from one document to another if they open at the same time.

In Word 2007:

  • Open the styles dialog (tab "Home" → "Styles" → "Bottom Right").
  • Click the "manage styles" button.
  • Click "Import / Export ..."

I don’t remember which option in Word 2003. I think that these were tools → Style Organizer or similar.

MSO 2003 Quick Tip for transferring styles from the current document to another document. Organizer's user interface shows the currently open document on the left and Normal.dot on the right. Clicking the drop-down list on the right gives you nothing but Normal.dot. Quoi ??

Click the right button Close the "File" button. Then it will be replaced with the "Open file ..." button. Select any file you want from there. Pay attention to the file type. MSO defaiult is .dot.

Use the Styles tab in Organizer (Tools menu → Templates and Add-ons → Organizer) to copy styles.

This is a way to transfer styles and formatting between two documents:

  • Go to Tools > Templates & Add-Ins...
  • Click Organizer button...

Laura's answer helped me find it in MS Word 2003. I clicked on “Tools”, “Templates” and “Add-Inns”, “Organizer”, then “Styles”. I just highlighted what I need on both sides, and click Copy.

Thanks to Laura. Which I could vote for you.
