Most “big” companies prefer WISA over LAMP? What for?

If this is true, I would like to know why. Do we see a large percentage of secure and high-performance web applications built in LAMP?

All about support. A large company purchasing from Microsoft will receive a hotline through its support team. Since any downtime can be incredibly costly for a large company, the ability to get immediate support at any time is more valuable than any savings made during the initial purchase.

In addition, if everything goes wrong, there is someone to blame and could potentially sue;)

"No one fired for the purchase of IBM." This summarizes the choice of many performers. No one is going to quit trusting a huge company that has proven success results - even if this is not the best choice.

I believe that this is more due to the sense of security that a large company gives you than to support. The business model of most open source companies is based on the provision of support and services instead of charging for software licenses. So maybe support here is not a major issue.

In addition, there is a question about visibility. When we step out of the world of computer science, open-source loses most of its visibility. For us, this is a completely different meaning than for our family, friends, and generally people who are not computer machines. They will go "Windows, of course, I know, Microsoft Windows ... Linux ... buzz .. yes, I heard about it, it's free, right? What's the trick?"

In my experience, large corporations do not seem to trust open source software. Although open source software is in many cases safer than proprietary software.

This is largely because as soon as the company reaches a certain size, these are not people with technical knowledge who make platform decisions.

You will not be fired for betting on Microsft.

Once you have the Win Server Admins / .NET / underqualified monkey development team, it’s easier for you to stick to what you know.

and you, the ASP.NET developers, are also winforms developers and developers of the MS Office platform.

But this only applies to internal applications. For public things, I think LAMP will always have an edge. And many people who create internal applications on WISA also run LAMP / WAMP and / or J2EE anyway, for in-app purchases.

Wikipedia and Facebook both launch LAMP packages. Wikipedia may not be big in terms of profit, but they have a lot of users and content. I think Facebook is of great importance by any definition. The difference is that they are not “entrepreneurs,” and that is, in my opinion, what you really mean by “big.” Enterprisey companies are determined by spending more money than necessary on what they don’t need, which doesn’t work very well, usually accompanied / caused by terrible bureaucracy. Other answers detail the plague of such corporations, so I will not go into it further; I just wanted to point out some of the successful applications of LAMP.

Typically, since MS sells them, and MS provides support. When you have a major flaw, the ability to call the manufacturer is worth the cost of the product (in the eyes of the business).

Perhaps because WISA is supported by support and official patches and updates, regardless of how far they are from each other. In addition, WISA has an excellent development environment. And you don’t have to read a ton of text files to figure out how to administer something. It is also easier to choose from 8 OS server options than seemingly endless free ones.

I think "no one is fired for the purchase of IBM." If a company wants to support a Linux / UNIX-enabled system, they have many options. There, Redhat, Novell, Sun, and Canonical provide support for their systems. This and its usually easier to find programmers and Windows administrators.

Many people prefer the security of another large company to come up to support problems. This suggests that LAMP has created many successful and high-speed sites.

Niche and / or Emergent Technologies is very difficult to get extra urine for.

By solid, I mean that a wet product has a long time, is expensive and, as a rule, cannot be a link.

A new technology or OpenSource may be an obvious choice, but if it is implemented, too often exists in the minds of one or two resources that pose a flight risk if they feel tested.

I am interested, however, in these more severe economic times, if we start to see larger companies covering the open-source "LAMP" and other similar derivatives. It also surprises me if I need it either.

Another part of this may be what the first web developers started using in the company. If the company was founded by former Microsoft employees or technology executives used to work at Microsoft, I think you could expect them to use the Microsoft Employee repository to get copies of some programs for creating a website. At least that is why I got into Visual Studio development after university for dot-com.
