Tracking user stories at JIRA / Greenhopper

If someone is trying to make it flexible, I'm trying to figure out a way to use JIRA / Greenhopper for this. We are a global development team, so the distributed nature is important here.

We initially used Scrumworks, but the team complained that they had duplicate information in JIRA and scrumworks all the time and was thought to be redundant.

We got Greenhopper and thought it would solve our problems, but the problems that I have with this:

  • JIRA User Story Concept
  • "Greenhopper" is a "task" oriented without aggregation at the level of user history.

Someone has done this successfully in JIRA, or we should take a look at returning to other tools like scrumworks and just use JIRA for the errors raised by our support team.

You can add your own types of problems in JIRA. Just add a type called User Story.

Then enable the subtask feature in JIRA. Then you can explode your stories in several subtasks. Integration of subtasks is not bad if you reuse the Ranking function. See: http://www.greenpeppersoftware.com/confluence/display/GH/PLANNING+BOARD#PLANNINGBOARD-ordering

Then you can

1) Rate your stories at story points

2) Priority of your problems (with a ranking field)

3) Explode stories in several subtasks that you will evaluate in hours.

You should post your questions on the GreenHopper forum, you might get faster answers. http://www.greenpeppersoftware.com/site/forums/list.page

I use Jira 4.3 and Greenhopper and it supports user stories out of the box. Epics and Themes are also supported there, but you need to tweak a bit. This built-in functionality was probably added after the date of the original question.

You can also try using an Agile Lifecycle Management product such as Rally, www.rallydev.com. The rally is built from the ground up to support any agile process and create comprehensive team reports. Check this.

Try Mingle - this excellent integration with Jira allows software development teams (using Mingle) and support groups (using Jira) to work the way they want.
