Standard sizes for the screensaver for Windows

Is there a standard splash screen size or a set of recommendations for splash screen size? This is for a music application for XP and Vista.

The Windows User Guide at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511284.aspx states that you should not use screensavers, except for unusually long-loading applications. A screen saver screen size that doesn’t hit the user too much (i.e. doesn’t cover the entire screen, which should remain true if the user has a lower screen resolution, which the developer :)) should be sufficient, if necessary.

Purely based on experience: None.

Even from MS applications, for example. Office and Visual Studio have different sizes (and VS grows with the number of components).

I use my splash screen as my login window. I just use 550X400 for my splash screen size, as this is the size of standard wizards.

I found this Microsoft article in the UX recommendations for Windows applications: Screen saver recommendations .

It refers to such sizes:

Scale Image size (pixels) 1x 620 x 300 1.4x 868 x 420 1.8x 1116 x 540
