.NET-based installation project does not complete during installation

I created an installation project using Visual Studio 2008 . When installing on another machine, the following error appears:

The installer was interrupted before MyApplication can be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again.

How to fix this problem?

The following is displayed in the log file.

Trying to install via the command line to get the log file. This should contain error information.

msiexec / i program_name / lv mylogfile.log

You can use Wilogutl to facilitate the analysis of the log file.

We had a similar problem and found useful advice on the MSDN forums :

The answer was to install the IIS Management Compatibility server role.

The Visual Studio installation project will create two files for you: the MSI file and the setup.exe bootloader. The latter installs any prerequisites for your application, and then runs the MSI file.

When you start bootstrapper setup.exe, a log file will be created in the subfolder of your% TMP% folder. Check for error messages in this file.

You can also run the MSI file directly and create a log file:

 msiexec /i mySetup.msi /l*vx log.txt

Log analysis helps you find the problem. If you need help reporting an error, you can change your question and add an error message.

  • Locate the BFE service location in the registry (HKLM \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ BFE \ Parameters \ Policy), right-click and select permissions.
  • In the "Policy Permissions" window, select advanced | Add.
  • When the "Select Users, Computers or Group" window appears, change "From this location:" to indicate the name of the local computer.
  • After changing the search location, enter "NT Service \ BFE" in the "Enter the name of the object to select" field and click "Check Names" - this will allow you to add a BFE account.
  • Grant the following privileges to your BFE account:
