Mailto: subject = and body = support in email clients

Does anyone know if, when sending the html newsletter, what support do the main mail clients have for the subject = and body = parts of the mailto tag?

The behavior depends on the email client and the source application. Here's a fairly likely example from my own system using the pjp link.

<a href="mailto:me@somewhere.com?subject=Hello%20People">Send Mail</a>
  • The Mailto link following the Outlook client successfully populates the subject
  • IE Mailto link successfully populates theme for Outlook client
  • The Mailto link specified in Firefox is not suitable for the same Outlook client (the text of the object remains part of the "TO" field)

I tried the same link in HTML emails read by gmail and Yahoo web clients.

  • Gmail correctly opens a new message with the desired object
  • Yahoo pre-populates the topic, but truncates in space (only "Hi")

This change on one computer makes embedded mail too difficult to use. I am sure that many e-mail newsletters provide a View as Web Page link in the header.

I think they have good support. BUT!! But mailto will be used to send and send email from the client TO me@somewhere.com. That is definitely you are not sending out the newsletter.

You will have to send emails from the server, possibly in the background.

EDIT: Wrong rethinking. Are you saying that you are using the admin section with a link to several TO addresses that the email client will then open to send your newsletter? In this case, despite the fact that large browsers probably have decent support, you should not rely on it in the wild, since it is not in the standard (I think), so they are not required to support it.

EDIT AGAIN:
