How do you manually install the eclipse-CDT plugin from the / zip archive on ubuntu?

I have successfully installed Eclipse 3.5 and Java 1.5. I would like to install CDT without using Eclipse “install new features” (and I cannot use the Eclipse-CDT installer) because this computer is turned off.

What I've done:

  • I downloaded the cdt archive from the official CDT download page .
  • I used the movie file to unzip everything to the eclipse folder (now plugins / functions have a ton of cdt files).
  • I started Eclipse with -clean
  • When I clicked "New Project". The GUI dialog did not display C / C ++ ... and there was no C / C ++ perspective

Eclipse seems to have ignored my unpacked CDT.

Have you ever installed CDT using a standalone archive?

What steps did I skip?

On eclipse 3.5, instead of unzipping to the eclipse folder, try “Install new software ...”, then “Add” and select “Archive” instead of entering the update site. Then follow the instructions.

That should work. Unpacking on top of the distribution is a more or less officially supported installation path. You seem to have confirmed that the files were in the right place.

The cdt version may not match the Eclipse version.

Try Help -> Software Updates... and see if the feature can be enabled.

Try Help -> About Eclipse Platform , then various information buttons there and see if you can find an error or a list of disabled functions. Also check the included list ...

As a last resort, you can try deleting the contents of the configuration directory in the root of eclipse. First back up and do not delete config.ini . Restart with -clean .

In eclipse HELIOS, I just put the downloaded .JAR file in C:\eclipse-jee-helios-win32\plugins and restarted eclipse.

Typically, the plugin will appear in the "New / Other" menu in the workspace window.
