Visual Studio Shell - Creating a Custom IDE

I know this is a very widely discussed issue, but what do I need to know to start creating a proprietary, custom IDE for the subject using VS Shell in isolated mode. Very little useful information about this beast is available through searches, so I hope for some advice and recommendations from the gurus who have gone through the obviously difficult use of this foundation.

Here you have a basic example of building an isolated shell:

If you redo the walkthrough, you will see how it works. Do this in conjunction with the examples provided in the Visual Studio SDK and you're on your way.

If you need help, I will definitely help you.

(If you need examples for Visual Studio 2010, I can also help you).
