Should I get gems from RubyForge, Github or Gemcutter?

I am confused in the world of Ruby Gems. There are several well-known repositories. What is right or does it matter?

I think Gemcutter is a hip repository right now. They definitely have the most beautiful website. Does this mean that I have to get my gems from there?

The main reason I ask is because I want to make sure I get the latest version of the gem. If I do not specify the source, am I threatened with installing the version of grap, or am I listening?

Why is there more than one repository anyway?

GitHub gem defunct building - it was disabled for the upgrade and was never re-enabled because the GemCutter is taking over this role. There are no new gems on GitHub.

RubyForge also plans to phase out Gem Host - GemCutter will become a standard source of gems.

Edit: the entire migration plan is here

Go gemcutter. He was published that the gemcutter will become a new de facto. But, if you cannot find the gem on the gemcutter, you need to look at github or rubyforge. Hopefully most people (if they have not already done so) start moving towards the gemcutter.

I think where are we now.

Because you can run your own gem server and install from it (some people use it on large deployments to host their own gems).
